Republicans are doing a bang-up job of destroying their relevance to modern society and the vast majority of Americans. Every election they become more and more entrenched as the party of fundamentalism.

All politicians are primarily influenced by the special interest groups that fund their campaigns. Republicans are funded by nut-jobs who hate science. The results are obvious.
SIDE NOTE: A shockingly high number of liberals have anti-science beliefs, but at least the Dem’s support science funding (when it suits their funders, that is).
