There I was typing away like a boss on an article using the rather nice StackEdit.io markdown editor in a window in Chrome… and then I couldn’t type. Nothing worked, not even typing in the URL address bar.
I thought it was the editor, or their site. Nope. I tried refreshing the page. Nope. I tried restarting Chrome. Nope.
Turns out it’s an Ubuntu thing and affects other apps as well, including Gimp.
The fix was easy: go to your System Monitor, search for ibus-daemon, and kill the process. Works every time now.
Note, if you want to learn more about what ibus does, read about it on the Arch Wiki — I never have this problem on Manjaro, my usual main distro (built on top of Arch), so I’m guessing it’s something to do with Ubuntu specifically? Don’t know.
